Moving with the current of a data-driven business landscape, IT executives and CIOs are on the front line, exploring options and optimizing existing infrastructures to ensure their organizations don’t get left behind. At a recent MicroStrategy/Informatica CIO roundtable hosted at the Toronto Board of Trade, that impetus was evident, with the cloud and data dominating the conversation.

We collected certain interviews in video, which you can access alongside the text – and we have a number of observations below as well. For instance, the event debunked at least one myth regarding Canada and its tech advancement.

“We heard was that cloud was a little nascent here in Canada,” said Tony Young, CIO of Informatica Corp., a Redwood, Calif.-based data integration company, who co-facilitated the roundtable series with Peng Xiao, executive vice-president and CIO of the Maclean, Va.-headquartered MicroStrategy Inc. “The reality was, that seemed to not be the case. It seemed that people were really interested in cloud and this was important.”

Young said he was also struck by how important the attendees regarded data. “As one person from a financial services company said, ‘Our CEO thinks we are a technology company. That’s what we do,’” Young recalled. “Cloud and people’s relative understanding of data is really resonating here.”
