The challenge in getting any of this put into practice lies in the huge disconnect in timeframes between our political process and the planetary processes that we hope to influence.
Politicians are elected for necessarily brief terms, while the implications of their policy decisions extend far beyond their timeline. So few politicians have the courage - or ability - to sacrifice their own self-interests, namely getting re-elected, in the name of long-term carbon emission reduction.
Unless there's a political benefit to jacking the value beyond the level of current affordability, it simply won't happen in our lifetime. And sadly, no technology exists to cost effectively fix what's already, apparently, been broken.
