Data protection and backup specialists have a new weapon available in their arsenal – the solid state drive (SSD).

Modern SSDs have been around for over a decade, and while you still might have to dig a little deeper into your wallet to provision an SSD data array, the attractiveness and affordability of SSDs has only grown in recent years and will continue along that path until they are the new industry standard, according to John Pearring, manager of sales and marketing at STORServer Inc.

“It's time to study, compare, position, and help customers make the shift from disk to SSD, just like they had to from tape to disk,” Pearring said in a release. “SSD is here, and it's only going to grab more of the storage stage.”

With a vision to “provide industry-leading backup appliance solutions to the mid-market to solve backup, archive and disaster recovery issues once and for all,” the Colorado-based STORserver is a leading provider of data backup solutions for the mid-market.

John Pearring worked as STORServer's president for over 13 years and now serves as the company's chairman and sales manager.

Channel Insider Canada recently interviewed him to find out what opportunities exist for the channel as SSD starts to take hold and what resellers need to know about the changing space of data backup and storage.
