Bruce Ross, President, IBM Canada
In the course of his career with IBM, Bruce Ross has seen IT-enabled innovation in many different contexts – in the US, and as General Manager for IBM Global Technology Services in the UK, Ireland, and South Africa. But the Canadian-born Ross, who returned home late last year to become president of IBM Canada, is impressed with the success of Canadian organizations in responding to the new challenges facing management in today’s complex economy.
“I think we've got some really fantastic success stories in Canada,” Ross said, when asked whether any Canadian senior executives are doing an exemplary job of providing leadership in the current, complex times. “The financial services industry as a whole, I would say, has done very well at this...[and] I think RIM's a great example as well.” Ross went on to discuss the idea that, as the title of the “Capitalizing on Complexity” report released by IBM in May suggests, a fluid business environment creates opportunities for far-sighted management, adding “I think the [Canadian] energy sector is now in a position to actually start to compete” on its ability to respond dynamically to complex conditions.
