Canalys appears to count tablets as PCs. If you took tablets out of the mix, only 93.7 million personal computers were sold.

Have we passed the tipping point? Interesting to see how 2012 will play out.

Remember, many people carry multiple phones (e.g. iPhone and BB), phone companies offer cheap replacement / upgrades frequently, obsolescence is amazingly fast, and desktop computers have very long lifespans (compared to smart phones), and are a real nuisance to replace, because of issues with moving data and setting up applications to meet your needs. So, I am not surprised that shipments have grown so quickly.

That being said, I bet people weren't predicting this back when smart phones first came out....
